Development of a test setup for turning components under different atmospheres
In the collaborative research centre ‘Oxygen-free production’, manufacturing processes are investigated under an oxygen-free atmosphere in order to identify potential for a resource-saving and sustainable process chain. To do this, we need a test rig on which the atmosphere around the machining process of the samples can be reliably varied.
You will support us with:
- generating ideas
- development and evaluation of a concept
- construction of the experimental setup
- validation of the experimental setup

Thermodynamics in titanium machining
Titanium alloys are used in many high-performance applications due to their outstanding material properties. The manufacture of titanium components is challenging, especially when it comes to machining. Very high temperatures and a high oxygen affinity lead to a large number of chemical interactions during the processes.
For this reason, oxygen-free titanium machining is being researched within a special research centre. The oxygen-free approach changes the chemical boundary conditions, which are now being researched.
